LESSONS

Scott is an experienced coach/teacher having taught private and group lessons for a number of years.  He is currently competing his own horse at Advanced (Level 6) dressage and is passionate about sharing his experience and knowledge with other riders.  His teaching style is positive and encouraging, while motivating and supporting people to step out of their comfort zone when necessary to achieve their goals and build their confidence - both in and outside of the arena.

Scott specialises in assisting riders to build on their horse's foundation to where the horses are set up, ready to get out and about and/or be competition ready.  He is also able to guide riders through resolving problems which may have arisen (such as rearing, no 'go' button, kicking out/bucking, etc).

Scott is immensely passionate about developing horses that are light, responsive and confident - making them enjoyable to handle and ride and able to perform at their best.  He offers coaching for riders of all levels and backgrounds who want to improve their riding and their relationship with their horse - taking their understanding of their horse to the next level and having fun along the way!

DRESSAGE COMPETITION WARM UP

Scott is able to assist you on the day of competition with your warm up.  He will guide you through any issues that may arise with your horse being in a new/different environment - building its confidence, settling both you and your horse, and ensuring you are set up and ready to start your test.  This is available to those who have had lessons with Scott and, at this stage, is restricted to dressage competitions held at the Rangiora Showgrounds and Harrs Road (and is subject to availability).   Please contact us to discuss your competition plans/goals.

TESTIMONIAL

January 2024: I approached Scott six weeks ago because my new horse did not have a “go button” - he would rear and buck and I didn’t enjoy riding him.  This was a last resort for me.  After discussions with Scott, I was keen to try a couple of lessons to see if we could find a way forward (literally) together.  I booked two lessons a day after each other to start with.  Six weeks later, and having continued with regular lessons with Scott, we have now competed twice with success.  The horse has not bucked or reared and we have walk to canter transitions installed – something that seemed near impossible for a horse that required ‘pony club kicking’ just to get from walk to trot.  Scott has been amazing to work with – not only does he have a number of solutions for problematic behaviours, but he has an incredible knowledge in dressage.  We are now successfully competing at Level 1 dressage where Scott attended and assisted with my warmup at our first competition.  Scott has the ability to break things down into a way that I can understand yet gets results and has inspired me to continue to work on these things at home between our lessons.  This is now one of my favourite horses to ride which is a huge turn around from six weeks ago.  I highly recommend Scott and look forward to continuing our ongoing journey together.
